| I've seen almost everyone around here sign up for an RP and use a picture that isn't theirs. It's called plagiarism, and can be very serious. I'm suggesting that we have a rule that goes against plagiarism? | |

| I agree completely! Guys, if you ever get images off of Deviantart, check to make sure it doesn't have a copyright on it! | |

| But even though it's free, images might still be copyrighted (e.g. Google) :) | |

| Thats already a rule, which people should be following.
ASK the person to use their picture first. Thank you!

| Basically, folks, you shouldn't use a drawing found off of deviantART or Google for anything. No posting to claim them as characters, no use of them in signatures, no photo-manips - nothing, unless you have permission from the original artist. This isn't just plagiarism, it's flat-out stealing. I've been dealing with this personally on several sites now and I don't like it any more then the artists do when they find out that their drawings, their personal work has been stolen.
HOWEVER, one very good website to find images is Gettyimages.com. There is an option that, when you search for images, you can select 'RF' or 'Royalty-free' images - basically meaning, you can use them however you want.

| So maybe we should post an announcement concerning plagiarism? I think it's a pretty good idea.
As for myself, plagiarism annoys me more than almost anything. I always draw my own pictures, and if it's based flatly off another picture I say so. People should do this more often. IMO, sites like Photobucket and dA are for looking, not taking. It's like a museum. You can look, but don't touch it.
I haven't been to gettyimages.com before, but I might try it out soon.

| I completely agree with the announcement idea.
Also, I want to remind you that plagiarism isn't always taking an image that's not yours; if it's say, a Pokemon sprite or image, it's fine.
